“When a girl feels that she's perfectly groomed and dressed she can forget that part of her. That's charm. The more parts of yourself you can afford to forget the more charm you have."
I went to a client’s house the other day, and she had the above quote stuck to her mirror. Her Capitol Hill condo was so charming…everything in it was immaculate, she had great decorating style, and it felt warm, homey.
So I took a picture. And then we started to create outfits with her current clothes. As we were going through her closet, I would ask about each piece of clothing. She would comment on them, and one item in particular that made me write this article around her quote was about a dress.
The dress did not fit perfectly. My client loved the black and white stripes, as well as the texture of the fabric, but it was too low cut for her. As charming as the dress was, it was not worn with confidence. To remedy this problem, I asked her to get out her black camisole and every scarf she owned. Having my client slip on the camisole, and finding a scarf that suited the dress, I wrapped it around her neck to help ‘cover’ her chest. After adding a few other finishing pieces, such as accessories and then slipping on a fabulous shoe, I finally let her look in the mirror.
She turned around, and said, “Wow. I feel like I’m from Paris! I’m wearing this tomorrow.”
As the quote above says, when one “feels that she’s perfectly groomed and dressed she can forget that part of her”. That dress will forever be worn with confidence, and my client will no longer be self-aware of the low neckline. The charm will radiate automatically!
